Vaccination Policy effective 1st July 2019
All dogs boarding at The Paw House Boarding Kennels must comply with the following vaccination schedules:
- Last core puppy vaccination (C3/DHP or C4 or C5): must be given at a minimum of 16 weeks of age
- 1st Adult core booster: 12 months after the final puppy vaccination
- Core vaccine boosters to be done at least trienially (every three years) after 1st adult core booster given
PLEASE NOTE: ANY/ALL vaccinations must have been given AT LEAST 10 days (14 days for puppy shots) prior to boarding commencing.
DOGS UNDER 16 MONTHS OF AGE WHO HAVE NOT HAD THEIR FIRST ADULT BOOSTER SHOT:
We require that young dogs boarding with us, who are not old enough to have had their first adult booster shot, must have had their LAST puppy vaccination NO EARLIER THAN 16 WEEKS OF AGE, regardless of whether they have two or three puppy vaccinations. This is in line with the policy of the Australian Veterinary Association, and that of the World Small Animal Veterinary Association, to minimise the chance that existing maternal antibodies in their system override the vaccine administered and render it ineffective.Research has shown that maternal antibodies can remain in their system up to a much later age than previously thought which explains why there has been a spate of "fully vaccinated" young dogs coming down with parvovirus over the last few years. 16 weeks is the earliest safest age to give their last puppy vaccination to give it the best chance of being effective.
DOGS OVER 16 MONTHS OF AGE WHO HAVE HAD THEIR FIRST ADULT BOOSTER SHOT:
Once a dog has had its 1st adult booster shot (12 months after the last puppy vaccination given) we are happy to accept vaccination boosters given trienially, in line with current recommendations from both the Australian Veterinary Association and the World Small Animal Veterinary Association. We are also happy to accept annual titre testing.
